The following physical characteristics or lifestyle habits increase the likelihood of developing sleep apnea:
Sleep apnea affects many urban dwellers. Approximately 4% of men, 2% of women, and 1-2% of children in Hong Kong suffer from this condition, with an estimated 350,000 people (over 5%) affected in the city. According to the Centre for Health Protection of the Hong Kong Department of Health, overweight and obese individuals also have a higher chance of developing sleep apnea.
