What is a CPAP Machine?

A CPAP machine is a medical device: A CPAP device is currently the most effective, common, and safe method for treating sleep apnea, and patients do not need to take medication. Patients only need to use a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device while sleeping.

While sleeping, the patient wears a nasal mask, and the CPAP device delivers air pressure to open up the blocked upper airway, allowing for normal breathing.

CPAP devices are broadly divided into 3 main categories:

Fixed CPAP Device: This is a basic CPAP machine that delivers a fixed pressure to open the airway, offering lower comfort.

Auto CPAP Device: This machine can sense the user's breathing rhythm and apnea situation with each breath. When airway obstruction occurs, it automatically increases pressure to open the airway. When the airway is clear, it automatically reduces pressure, reducing discomfort for the user. Auto CPAP devices are more advanced than fixed-pressure machines, offering superior comfort compared to fixed CPAP machines.

BiPAP (Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure) Device: The characteristic of BiPAP is that it has two pressure levels, inspiratory and expiratory pressure, making exhalation more comfortable for the user. Its comfort is even better than that of auto CPAP devices, making it favored by those with high demands.

BiPAP machines are also more suitable for patients with central sleep apnea, obstructive sleep apnea who cannot tolerate CPAP treatment, and patients with breathing difficulties caused by both lung and heart conditions.
